My Weight Loss Journey

Are you ready to get in shape? I sure was. Over a year ago I started my weight loss journey. It was definitely a struggle, but the past 6 months, I decided to get “dialed in” and focused. I have started seeing results (progress pictures are posted on my Facebook page). I’ve gotten questions from so many of you asking for work out tips, so I decided to film one of my workouts. This was a hard one, but I felt great after it was all over!

Share your thoughts! I can’t wait to chat with you all!

    Patrice,

Good for you! My guilty pleasure is Carmel Rice Cakes, they're not the most healthy in the world, but they're not too bad. They're only 50 calories, and if you add some Smart Balance Peanut Butter they taste great! I also like to slice up an apple and top it with Smart Balance Peanut Butter as well. Those are 2 things that (in my opinion) taste great and are healthy!

    Marquetta,

I am so glad you decided to get “dialed in”- and thankful that you are sharing your enthusiasm with others. I have always enjoyed working out and learnig about health and nutrition. I am now 35 (soon to be 36) and find it very difficult to loose weight. I'd like to loose about 10-12 pounds. Doesn't sound like much but now that my hormones are changing it is taking a long time. I've never been this heavy (approx 127 lbs- I'm short) before and started puting on weight when I began hangin out with my (then boyfriend-now husband). We both had a sit down job and would eat out for dinner a lot. Since then, I've helped him loose about 30 lbs. We rarely eat out and try to have fresh, raw fruit and/or veggies daily. We exercise regularly (about 5 days/wk). Howvever because my body/hormones seem to be changing so much- my progress is slow. It used to be so easy for me. I will keep tweeking my workouts to see what works best for me- and I will check out Shane's blog. The main thing for me is to stay encouraged and just keep at it. Your video is very inspirational. Thank you.

Girl you was working it OUT! Man I would love to be able to do that. My one concern is my current weight and my asthma. I have just heard too many horror stories of trainers mistreating people who are overweight(embarrassing them on the gym floor) A trainer should be strict, but not a jerk. If there is a way I can work out without triggering an attack I would love to. I am afraid a low impact excerise wont give me the results I need. I have however been working on the nurtrition part.

I give much props to you, because I can not do more than 5 push-ups. Working out with weights is not something I prefer, but have heard that women should work out with weights to help with weight loss and keeping theirselves strong. I may start, my husband has weights, but I have not acquired the taste for that type of exercise. I do walk and jog a little to stay fit, but after seeing you work so hard and making it look easy, I'm going to give it a try. Thanks and I look forward to your next video.

    Hi Marquetta,

That was a very intense workout, it was a wise decision for you to began such an important journey. I am 50-years old and have worked out periodically since I reached the age of 40, even competed in several weightlifting contests. I think it's wonderful as a black woman that you are sharing this video with us, because for some reason a lot of black women don't like going thru the process of working out, especially in a gym. I reach out to people daily about eating healthier and fitness but most just ignore it and rather put their health at risk instead. I encourage you to continue what you are doing by reaching out to those who maybe lead to make a lifestyle change as you did by eating healthier and exercising.

    God Bless,

    Vanessa

Hi M. you are an inspiration, i'm working out, but i use a dvd with Billy Blanks at home,, i cannot do you hard core technique, thats a killer, i think because you have a history with the army!! that's what makes you so strong. My arms and wrists are so weak, to even do push ups it's hard for me.
I admire you, when i make up my mind i'm also focused, but you are the greatest, bless you.
    See you on face book.

    Hi Marquetta,

I started working out about 15 years ago. I started with step aerobics. I like the DVD routines. For the past 3 years since living in Tennessee, I've been walking outside. I've recently made my walks longer because I feel I've put on weight, again. This helps a lot. My weakness is sugar, I love sweets, particularly cake, cookies and brownies. I recently had two monster brownies and felt it during my last walk. It took about 2 days to finish the brownies, but the walk was so difficult! I didn't walk as long, about 40 minutes. I had been walking about 50 minutes. Like you, diseases run rampid in my family, except breast cancer. I carry my weight in my belly, the worst place because the fat is surrounding the internal organs. Your video is very inspirational and motivational. I don't think I want a personal trainer though :) . Thank you for sharing your workout.
