It's no secret that hair is and always will be my first love. I'm obsessed with it.
I eat, sleep, and breathe hair… sometimes literally! LOL
Well…it's time I confess that I have a 2nd love and its…
I never talk about it, but I have a strong love for nails.
When I was in cosmetology school I felt like I was cheating on hair when I'd have to do someone's nails, but deep down inside I loved it!
The one thing I struggled with a lot was…Acrylics. Man those things do NOT come easy without practice.
And even after years of practice I still couldn't grasp the concept of the ratio to the monomer and powder.
I practiced for years off and on. I even took a few classes, but I just couldn't get it.
I've always been the type to push even harder when something get's this hard. This time I didn't do that. I sold all of my stuff and decided it wasn't for me.
The fact that I threw in the towel and stayed in the back of my mind for a few years.
I refused to let it beat me, so yesterday I told my daughter to get dressed so we could go on a field trip to our favorite store…CosmoProf!
I picked up an CND acrylic kit, and a few other supplies, came home, dusted off my nail stuff…well what I had left, and decided to take the bull by the horns and was determined to do get it done!
I prepped Nya's nails and carefully went through the steps remembering everything I did wrong and what I've seen done right.
I applied the acrylic to the first nail and all of my fears and frustration went away because finally I was able to do it!
Maybe it was my research, maybe it was my obsession with figuring it out but the whole point to this story is that although I got frustrated and “gave up” I was so hungry to learn that I challenged myself.
Now, I have a lot of work to do to perfect my technique, but for anything I've struggled with in hair this has always been my approach.
