It was all planned out. Ricky and I had it in our calendars to leave to go to North Carolina for thanksgiving on the Wednesday before. We had planned on staying for 2 1/2 days to get back home for filming some DVDs with Dan for our other website RegenerateYourLife.org.
Things didn't quite work out that way. 3 days prior I received a phone call from my Mom. She asked me if I could come with her to a very important Oncology appointment. I went and while we were there we found out she had to have surgery in 2 days.
OMG! We weren't planning on this! We had plans of meeting the rest of our family at my cousin's house for Thanksgiving.
“You know what this means,” my Mom looked at me and asked.
“No…..Oh no! This means I have to cook!!”
This would make the 2nd time I've ever had to cook Thanksgiving, but what really put the pressure on was the fact that I wasn't just cooking for Ricky and the kids. I was cooking for my whole family, including my soon to be sister in law!
“Mom, you don't have to worry about a thing. Marquetta's got it taken care of. She'll handle everything,” Ricky said to my Mom.
I could hear my brother in the background laughing and asking the kids if I could cook.
“I hope you don't cook the turkey in Almond Milk,” my brother said to me after he had already cracked a bunch of jokes…lol!
I turned around, looked at my Mom and said, “Mama I got this, don't worry! You'll come home to some good food tomorrow!”
I woke up early that morning and started cooking. About an hour before my Mom was due to arrive back home I had to run to Wal-Mart to pick up some stuff I was missing for my big dinner.
On my way out of Wal-Mart I stopped by the rest room to wait for Nya. I was looking down at a recipe on my phone when I heard a Wal-Mart Employee yell, “Sir, stop sir!”
I could feel my heart in my chest! I froze as I watched this dramatic moment take place. The Wal-Mart employee ran up to the guys and handed one of them a $50 dollar bill and said…“Sorry to yell. You dropped this!”
“Oh wow! Thanks man, you know what, you keep it! Happy Thanksgiving Man!”
I was knocked off my feet! A tear fell down my eye as my daughter walked out of the bathroom.
I went back to my Mom's house and almost finished up dinner before my Mom came back home. A few minutes later dinner was served, and all of my critics said it was amazing!
Later on the rest of our family stopped by to see my Mom. We laughed, ate some more, and laughed even more!
I have to say this Thanksgiving turned out to be one of the best ones I've ever had!
