The other day I was in Wally World aka Wal-Mart when I had a brief conversation with the checkout lady about…
You guessed it, hair!
She had a very nice asymmetrical cut. It was colored jet black and although it was simple, it was very cute on her. The shorter side was not quite shaved, but the long side was past her shoulders.
Because I have a “trained eye” I could tell her hair on the longer side was not a weave.
“Your hair is beautiful,” I said.
“Thanks! I would have never done this if it hadn't caught on fire. I've been growing my hair out for 6 years! I wasn't natural, but I was trying to get my hair mid back length,” she said.
“Oh My Goodness! I'm so sorry to hear that”
After she chuckled, she went on to explain to me that she was in the salon when her stylist took the Marcel iron directly out of the stove and without testing it stuck it directly to a large section of her hair.
That large section started to smoke and burned completely out. She immediately apologized and said she wasn't paying attention.
The stylist admitted her mistake and offered her free services for six months to get hair hair healthy and growing again.
When she told me that I was so glad the stylist took responsibility for what she did and fixed the situation.
As stylists, we get that client in our chair that we really like, and once we get deep in conversation it's easy to miss something. Always remember to pay attention to the little things, slow down, and please don't forget to test your irons!
It doesn't matter how long you've been doing hair, mistakes happen and you want to make sure you follow necessary procedures when doing even the simple things.
Be blessed,
