One of the best feelings you get as a teacher and mentor is the feeling of seeing the success of the people you've worked with.
Seeing the growth in people who come to you at the beginning stages of their career unsure of what to expect, scared of failing, yet vulnerable and willing to let you do what you do best is amazing to me.
I almost always see things in them they don't see in themselves, and it's my job to bring that out, to show them themselves the way God sees them. When they finally step into their calling, and they are flourishing, that's when I know I've done my job. It's a fantastic thing to see.
A few days ago, Toria Demps (a former student and graduate of my business mentorship program) sent an email to her list, which I happen to be on. (One of the other things I stressed the importance of to my students) The email's subject was, “She helped me make over 50K with custom wig making❣️”.
I couldn't help but think back to when I first met Toria in 2014. You see, she was unable to attend the previous events because she is a military spouse, and there was something that happened with her Husband having to get stationed somewhere, or maybe it was a move; either way, she wasn't able to make it.
I always tell students they make it to the event they are supposed to be at. The reason why that's a crucial part of her story because at the event she was finally able to attend in 2014, she joined my Mentorship Program, which was the catalyst to helping her understand how to make money with custom wigmaking.
Had she attended any earlier, she wouldn't have been able to join because it wasn't something I offered at the previous events. This was God! Let me share a snippet of Toria's email…
Soooo, back in 2014 when I finally was able to attend a 2 day event in Charleston, South Carolina on lace wig making, near the end on the second day, I sat there wondering what was next…
And then it happened, an opportunity for mentorship was offered!
Sitting on a business degree but having no idea where to start, I jumped at the offer with no hesitation despite the cost. Long story short, I kept investing in different offers over time until I had to stop. (More on this later) All of that to say how things came back full circle over the course of my first few years in business.
Marquetta Breslin (who taught the event in Charleston and became my mentor) helped me grow my baby business in ways I had never imagined. Through referrals, social media mentions, podcasts interviews and so much more, I made well over 50K.

The thing that separates Toria and some of my other successful students is the fact that they IMPLEMENT.
Giving advice is one thing, but if the individual doesn't implement it, it's simple…nothing happens.
You can't grow in business being stagnant. You have to be willing to do the work. Toria has always been willing to do the work, so she reaped the rewards. I'm so proud of her!
