Last weekend was spent in North Carolina. My Mom, and a bunch of relatives spent all year planning one of the best family reunions I'd ever been to.
I saw family I hadn't seen in over 10 years!
Being home reminded me of where it all started. My drive, my passion, and my hunger for wanting to learn more about hair all started back home.
It reminded me of the time I took on my first non-family client, she was one of my friends in High School.
She asked for a full head of Miro Braids.
I started braiding by doing my own hair and it looked pretty good for having done it out of shear desperation for the first time.
She asked me my price and I gave her my best price of…
$25
She arrived to her “appointment” on time and I got started. I worked harder that I'd ever worked on someone's head and the end result was embarrassing, and terrible looking.
They were the worst I'd ever done and the hardest I'd ever worked.
She said she liked them, paid me my $25 and surprisingly she showed up to school for a few weeks with them still in!
I couldn't for the life of me figure out what I did wrong. There was no google back then so I just resorted to practicing on family until I finally figured out the #1 key to creating flawless Micro Braids every single time.
It was that moment that sparked a fire in me that through lot's of obstacles that eventually ended me here talking to you and sharing my experiences with you.
Never forget where you came from…
Food for thought.
Be blessed,
Marquetta Breslin
