“Long hair don't care. What kind of mess is that? I don't want my members so focused on what's on their heads and not IN their heads…I lead a church where our members are struggling financially. I mean really struggling. Yet a 26 year old mother in my church as a $300 weave on her head. NO, I will not be quiet about this”
This is a quote from Pastor A.J. Amir that I found on AmericanPreachers.com.
The article goes on to explains how Pastor Amir told his congregaton to NOT wear weaves.
Why?
He feels as if women who wear weaves are presenting a false image of themselves which is, according to the article, associated with low self-esteem.
He goes on to say that black women are getting weaves trying be something they're not. We should be real with ourselves.
Wow! I was blown away by what I read. I will admit we do spend an insane amount of money on our hair, and I have heard of women who will buy hair before paying bills, and that is all types of wrong.
But…
What about the woman wearing the protective stye so she can grow her hair out, or the woman who works out like crazy and us unable to spend adequate time on her hair, or the woman who's hair just needs a break?
Is this really how we're perceived when we wear weaves?
Is it really any of anybody's business what we do to our hair as long as it's neat, clean and professional?
Post your comments below. I'm very interested to hear what you have to say?
Be blessed,
