Robbing, Stealing, & Killing All In The Name Of Hair

I get a ton of compliments on my huge bun I wear on the top of my head with my braids.

But, what if you HAD to wear your hair up everyday in fear that you could be robbed a gunpoint?

I can't imagine what that would feel like.

There are women in Venezuela living this reality as hair robbery is on the rise according to Informe 21, a Venezuelan digital newspaper.

This group of individuals, identified as “piranas”, are robbing women at gunpoint for their hair.

If they are caught wearing their hair down they are forced to put their hair into a ponytail so it can be cut and sold to beauty salons for hair extensions.

What on earth is the world coming to when you cannot even wear your hair?!

When I read that article I immediately thought back to when I was contacted by a news station in Detroit for a murder that had happened at a local beauty supply store.

The owners were murdered and the thieves made out with and estimated $10k in retail for hair.

This hair was sold on the streets. Unfortunately, selling hair on the streets is a huge market.

If at all possible support your local beauty salons that sell hair. There are many who now are selling high quality hair that's better than anything you can get out of the beauty supply store.

Be careful out there!

This is definitely something to think about when you're making your future purchases.

Be blessed,
