Yesterday I had a very important doctor's appointment, and because I'm a veteran I had to get a pass to go on base.
Once I found the building to get my pass I walked in and noticed a familiar face. I didn't know her name, but I remembered her face.
We had several encounters at the Air Force base when I was in.
It's safe to say we “tolerated” each other…lol.
We didn't always see eye to eye.
Anyways…
There were quite a few people in the office. She asked for my name again and as soon as she found it, she looked up at me and said…
“You've gotten f…. Uhh, you've put on some weight!”
She barely got the FAT word out of her mouth, but it was enough for people to stop what they were doing turn a look at me then back at her.
I can tend to have somewhat of a smart mouth, so I took a deep breath, smiled and said…
“Yes. I have gained some weight. Happens to the best of us!”
She and everyone in that room could see the look of disgust on my face.
I laughed it off, took my clipboard of paperwork she gave me and sat down to fill it out.
Another young lady that was in the office sat down with me and said…
“OMG, she was so rude! I'm offended for you!”
“It's all good. She and I have never seen eye to eye,” I explained.
I was so annoyed, aggravated, and embarrassed!
On her way out to lunch she stopped to apologize.
I smiled and accepted her apology and quickly looked down at my phone to keep from losing my cool.
Thank God I did! I went directly to my email and was reading the responses to the email I sent out on Monday about the Braiding Package and this was the first thing I saw when I looked at my phone…
Hey Sis Breslin, I have mine [Braiding Package]and it has been a big help; just ordered them last month and wow, what a difference and I’m not a hairstylist, just a 50 year old doing my 11 yo about to 12 yo’s hair; it is a blessing to follow you and get tips and advice and to me, hairstyles are art, and if you can achieve it, it is something to be proud of; my daughter’s hair is natural and so beautiful —spongy and wavy and thick, she is now loving her natural after I showed her some things and I don’t like to braid it down often, but until the length is where I want it and can leave her to do her own, I will be working with it, it is soft also, so I don’t pull on it much—thank you for being a blessing to others—you are a true follower of the Word of God…stay that way!
God is always on time. That email response was just the “pick me up” I needed to see and it came at the perfect time!
After I read the email a lady that was also inside the office when I was insulted tapped me on the shoulder and said…
“You know, I've been following you for a very long time and I have to say I expected you to not have such a calm reaction to that lady. You really held it together and that's commendable considering the situation. Thank you!”
I gave her a hug and thanked her for saying hello.
This just goes to show, you never know who's watching or paying attention. I'm not claiming to be perfect, heck she may have had a different reaction on a different day…lol.
But, I really do try to picture my kids or my pastor standing next to me as I'm put in awkward situations like this. It really helps a lot!
Food for thought.
Be blessed,
