No one knows anything until they know.
What does that mean Marquetta?
It means this…
You didn't know how to do hair until you learned…
You didn't know how to braid until you learned…
You didn't know how to read until you learned…
You didn't know how to do nails until you learned…
So you didn't know ANYTHING until you learned…
When challenges come your way take them head on and say, “I don't know how to do that, but I'll learn.”
You can make a way or you can make excuses. Most people are confortable making excuses. Don't be one of them.
Using that type of language is limiting your belief about yourself and what you're capable of. You can do whatever you put your mind to. There are no limitations.
Almost 5 years ago my daughter came to me and said “Mom I want to be a Makeup Artist”.
Shortly after having a conversation with her I realized she wasn't talking about when she grew up, she was talking about right then.
I have to be honest, I didn't really take her seriously, but she didn't let that stop her. She was determined to show us that she was serious.
What did she do?
She saved her money and started to buy her own makeup. She practiced daily on herself. She tried to replicate looks. She never gave up.
I started to see a huge difference in her technique so I talked it over with Ricky and we decided to get her some professional training to see if others saw her as a talented makeup artist just as we did.
Sure enough they were amazed at her talent. Later she developed a keen relationship with her mentor Fifi Tesfatsion who took her on and mentored her for her first big gig.
She was the lead makeup artist for Charleston Children's Fashion Week and single handedly tackled over 150 faces all by herself at 10 years old.
She later went on to do a commercial and a ton of makeup on models to build her portfolio.
She didn't know until she knew.
Nya started her career at 7 years old, here's what she can do now. So what's stopping you?

There's more to the beauty industry than just “doing”. Don't limit yourself with your language. If a 7 year old can do it so can you.
Be blessed,
